About Me

Historian, writer and researcher.

Having finished a Masters in Historical Research in 2011 I have recently started a part-time collaborative PhD with the IHR and BPMA looking at the Victorian Post Office and the welfare of workers. This has included loking at nineteenth century pensions and the Sunday labour question. I have interests in the history of London, identity, communications, work and material culture, but not necessarily in that order. I also love the museums, culture and oral history and look for any excuse to explore these areas. This blog works as a good excuse!

Pior to my PhD my research has included submarine telegraphy, chartist petitions, Post Office uniforms, post-war employment in West London, and Victorian Sutton.

I was wondering if I could have permission to use your April photo of the Kennington Meeting? I would cite your page appropriately. I am writing a book on our family history and in 1847=1848 my great grandfather stayed oin Lond and wrote a diary so he mentioned the Chartists.
    Thanks very much,
    Sharon Hope
